ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY AUGUST 24, 79 A.D. TWO ITALIAN CITIES, POMPEII AND HERCULANEUM WERE DESTROYED BY THE ERUPTION OF NEARBY MOUNT VESUVIUS! THE MASSIVE ERUPTION CAME WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND WAS COMPLETE WITH OVER 90% OF THE RESIDENTS OF THE TWO CITIES DESTROYED BY THE FIRE, LAVA AND POISONOUS GASES.
